Some divorce proceedings are over quickly. Others can take a while to settle. No real surprise there. But then there are those that take long and drawn out to another level. Such is the case with celebrities Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore. Ashton and Demi, married in 2005, have been trying to achieve a settlement for a year now. And for all efforts to keep the negotiations out of the public eye, the rumors continue to circulate about the couple’s inability to reach a decision.
Supposedly one issue standing in the way is that of money and how it should be divided. For the last few years of their marriage, Ashton’s salary has been reportedly higher than Demi’s. This is especially true since he signed on to play Walden Schmidt on the CBS comedy “Two and a Half Men.” But it is impossible to overlook the other major issue – the issue of infidelity during their marriage. So the dissolution discussion boils down to an argument what was earned what and what is deserved.
While most of us are not reading about our personal relationships in the tabloids, the issues that Ashton and Demi are facing are just as common outside of Hollywood. A prenuptial agreement probably could have made it easier to reach a settlement. Couples who are already married can also seek out a postnuptial agreement if they decide they want a little extra security against future unknowns.
